1969 NSU Ro80 Sedan
$12,500.00
Yokine, WA

After 10 years of ownership I'm selling my rare NSU Ro80, have bought another car and run out of space...

The Ro80 is recognized as one of the most significant car designs of its era. With a rotary engine, semi-automatic, front wheel drive, aerodynamic shape, power steering, disc brakes, etc, it was a very advanced car – and justifiably the winner of World Car of the Year in 1967.

Of 19 Ro80s delivered new in Perth, this is one of 6 which were registered in WA in 1970. Significantly, it was rust-proofed when new, making it a rare survivor today. This car has had comprehensive mechanical rebuild in the last ten years with the current owner. Previously the engine had been uprated to a Mazda 12A rotary, giving improved reliability and performance. The engine has been rebuilt (giving 140bhp), transmission, brakes, radiator, fuel pump and more. New Pirelli tyres, battery and exhaust with stainless steel muffler were fitted, and much more... The body is in excellent condition. The upholstery is showing signs of age and would benefit from being re-done. Inertia reel seatbelts have been fitted.

The car has recently been serviced and runs sweetly. All work has been done by leading specialists. It has been a very reliable car. Being reluctantly sold due to purchase of another car.

Small numbers were sold in Australia and sadly, most have rusted away or succumbed to problems with the original rotary engine. Probably less than a dozen remain on the road in Australia.

This actual car featured in a 6-page article in Unique Cars magazine and other press articles whilst in its current ownership. It has been displayed at many car shows, where it always attracts attention, even winning an award... It looks very smart in Glacier White with black interior.

The car will be sold with a comprehensive history file, copy of the handbook and parts book and by negotiation, a quantity of spare parts.

Asking just $12,500 or near offer.

They're a quirky beast. From the back they could be a Fiat, from the front, a Peugeot.

What an amazing car. Is it a problem that it now has a Mazda engine?
Where they produced in Australia?
THanks FTD. :)

Oh they were all imports, and not a huge seller back in the day. Interesting look at NSU Ro80 history in Australia:

Question is - has it been converted to piston or is the Mazda engine still a Wankel? I mean these were famous for being Wankel powered, be a shame if it wasn't, for the sake of originality.
