Here's a (not entirely complete) list of what we've done to Frank since 2008.

20/12/08
Towed home
Stripped out interior
Degreased and degunked engine bay
Removed Holden air cleaner and installed Ramflow
Removed spare wheels and other spares from interior and boot
Thorough vacuum
Replaced front seats with Mk 3 Golf seats

Worked out origin of rear brakes - Nissan Pulsar


24/12/08
Removed rear quarter panel and door from 1974 Passat at wreckers


25/12/08
Clearing up wiring mess in engine bay
Fixed ignition switch which was wired to parker lights so it wouldn't start without the parkers on
Removed driving lights and associated wiring cables and switches as well as the horn relay setup
Replaced dash blower fan
Oil pressure switch now working

Pushed the damaged rear quarter out off the tyre


18/6/09
Located a replacement (secondhand) set of tail lights from a QLD diesel via Ebay


8/8/09
Removed damaged outer skin fron rear quarter panel

Dennis fixes quarter panel
Frank gets his name!

Locate another door, from a 1977 Passat, as the first replacement one had a large repair in it, located once sanded
Sanding/filling/smoothing starts

Finished all the welding repairs
Sanding continues

Sanding finishes
Masked up for undercoat
Spray whole car in undercoat
Sanding with finer paper begins

Wet rub the paint ready for application of 8 coats of clear (4l)

Resprayed the bumpers and grill

replace one rounded brake bleeder nipple
repair/replace damage chrome trim on passenger window.
Fitted NOS side mirrors
Fitted sun visors and mirror.
Most of the door cards are back in.
re-wired engine fan and tested
Put fuel in tank and started car.

Cleaned and fitted coolant recovery tank
Cut a piece of carpet for rear deck.

Replaced handbrake cable with custom one made from a 1998 Audi A4 brake cable set
Replaced traverse suspension arm which was bent with one from 1977 Passat

Replace one smashed CV
Replace strut bearings

Remove cooling system and throw away

Remove remnants of air con system
Replace three engine mounts
Install mag wheel locks

Wheel alignment
New exhaust installed

Roadworthy
Restored and fitted battery clamp.
Pressure washed gearbox and undercarriage.
Welded in new fuse box mounting bracket.
Fixed one door lock
Repaired two window regulators
Fixed the wiring faults that arose from unplugging the fuse box to weld in the new bracket!
Connected the check straps on all doors
Bled the brakes (again)
Replaced the indicator stalk with a brand new one (from Israel!)
Replaced one of the rear seat belts.
Installed handbrake cable retaining clips
Glued down a dash mat to cover the cracks (temporary fix)
Fixed the horn again!
Replaced starter wire in engine bay which was badly deteriorated and causing stalls

Registered for street use

Installed air horns and tank in boot
Installed speakers in rear deck

Authentic VW keys cut
Installed new chin spoiler

Replaced 4 stem seals, installed 4

Frank's birth certificate arrives from Germany

Replace welsh plug in engine
Repair hole in exhaust downpipe


November
Resume buffing of paint and complete polishing every panel
Scrub headlining
Install console
Install glovebox after tapping stud to anchor it to, repairing left over damage from after market aircon
Clean interior completely
Retreat all plastic exterior parts with Meguiars and Auto Glym products
Wire up clock and air tank gauge
Replace rear door seals
